Who we are
We are a family of five with a curly coated retriever by our side. Harvest cottage is our place of passion and relaxation. It is a 20 acre property filled with open spaces, native bush land and a garden to sit and watch time go by. Here we get our hands dirty in the veggie patch, cut wood to keep us warm and with the help of a few friendly sheep we farm space.
Harvest Cottage is situated on the rich volcanic soils of Central Victoria, Dean. This little slice of heaven is 25km from Daylesford and 5km to Creswick. We are 5km to the Goldfields walking track: a 210km point-to-point walk from Ballarat to Castlemaine. Creswick if full of short walks too. A favourite of ours is the La Gerche walk where in Autumn the pine mushrooms and slippery jacks are bountiful. And while we're not big fans of the blackberry plants, there are great places to pick the sweet fruit in Summer.
For a taste of Europe, Creswick has an authentic French patisserie, Le Péché Gourmand, and the Swiss Mountain Hotel serves terrific restaurant-style cuisine in a hybrid country pub chalet!
What we love
We believe in organic principles and like to garden and manage our paddocks in this way. Harvest Cottage is a place to take time to nurture the environment and leave it in a better shape than when we arrived. Feel free to harvest some of our veggies and herbs for your dinner.
Bring your boots for a walk down to the Winter creek, through the forest of Blackwoods and gums, where tiny orchids and native violets, and plucky daffodils pop up to make you smile. Kookaburras, a nesting pair of Wedge-tailed eagles, finches, wrens, rosellas, owls, frogs, blue-tongued lizards, kangaroos and echidnas are frequent visitors and inhabitants.
Springtime is lamb time at Harvest Cottage, and if you're lucky, they'll let you scratch their ears and even have a cuddle!
